Who uses ECOTECT? ECOTECT is designed and written by architects and primarily intended for architects – although the software is used extensively by engineers, local authorities, environmental consultants and building designers, as well as owner-builders and environmental enthusiasts alike. To see how other people are using it, see the Gallery or the Example Output pages. Energy efficiency is now an achieveable goal for all designers.
One of the greatest benefits of using ECOTECT in the building design process is that you can analyse buildings of any level of simplicity (or complexity). This means that even with the most basic massing model a designer, who may be unfamiliar with the complexities of environmental analysis, can learn and begin to understand the environmental effects of the design decisions they make.
To foster this learning and investigation ECOTECT simulations are more visual and interactive than any other.
Encouraging designers to "play" with building performance is a key goal for ECOTECT - with the ultimate aim of helping more and more designers easily integrate energy efficient and sustainable design practices with the core of their design processes. Ongoing Development
Development is ongoing in all areas of ECOTECT's user interface, modelling functions, analysis methods, import/export capabilities and reporting features. To check progress in any of these areas, or to contribute by reporting bugs or suggesting new features, check out the ECOTECT development project.
