Basic characteristics
FEAT is a programme system for the solution of tasks in the field of
statics of civil engineering structures. The system is equipped with a
quality user interface and extended calculation capabilities. FEAT is
intended primarily for advanced statics because its main virtue is the
capacity of the easy solution of space structures. FEAT's main
advantages are:
* easy handling,
* intuitiveness and lucidity, clear orientation even in complex space models,
* high capacity,
* quality output documents (built-in text editor working with both text and graphics, dynamic document).
FEAT 2000 is the up-to-date version of this system, developed for
computer systems Windows 2000, Windows NT, Windows 95 and Windows 98.
It is a qualitatively new kind of software because it was developed not
only for calculation by means of finite element method, but primarily
for real designing of load-bearing systems. Users of FEAT 2000 do not
work with finite elements but with members of the structure and its
connections. Entities such as beam, column, plate, wall, opening etc
can be used here. This approach makes it possible to assemble very
easily even a complex structure consisting of beam and plane parts and
enables the user to effortlessly check the connections of the parts.
High interactivity of the system, whose parts are also design modules,
facilitates (i) modifications of the structure based on calculated
results, (ii) work with different variants, etc. Thanks to these
characteristics FEAT can be called a "CAD system for statics".
Some advanced features of FEAT 2000
* automatic connecting of entities which intersect or join each
other (it does not matter if the entity middle lines, resp. middle
planes, cross one another, or whether just entity volumes intersect
each other), simple editing of contact properties on any part of the
structure,
* solid tools for geometrical constructing in 3D,
* well-designed functions for selection of entities, tools for manipulation with large models,
* work with several projects at the same time with the possibility to
move or copy parts of the structure between the projects,
* simple comparison of results of individual variants in separated windows,
* automatic generation of (i) combinations of load cases and (ii) envelope curves,
* high interactivity of work - during evaluation of results in
postprocessor window any modification of the structure can be
performed; after recalculation, depicted results are automatically and
immediately re-painted for current computational model,
* integrated design modules makes it possible to (i) quickly obtain
design quantities (e.g. minimum necessary reinforcement) for the whole
or part of the structure, and (ii) find extreme values of these
quantities. Both these features facilitate finding weak points of the
structure.
Extended calculation modules
* geometrically non-linear calculation (buckling on beam and plane members, rope structures),
* calculation of linear stability,
* calculation of free vibration,
* calculation of general forced vibration (load defined by force with
generally variable time variation, earthquake defined by accelerogram),
* calculation of response to seismicity from response spectrum.
Additional calculation capabilities
* interaction of the structure with foundation, Winkler - Pasternak model of foundation,
* beam acting only in tension or compression,
* moving load,
* quality finite elements for shells and for beams with shear deformation taken into account.
Compatibility with CAD systems
* DXF interface,
* Nemetschek - Allplan,
* Cadkon,
* Spirit
